Schools funding cuts consultative ballot

UNISON represents around 250,000 school support staff across the UK and those members do fantastic work to help children learn, keep them safe and healthy and keep schools running smoothly

But, life is getting harder in our schools so we are running a consultative ballot of our members about their pay, terms and condition and workload.

Funding cuts are having a devastating effect on both school staff and pupils.  Primary schools have had an average cut to their funding of £45.000 per year whilst Secondary schools have suffered even larger average cuts of £185.000!  In real terms, cuts of £2.8 billion have been made since 2015.

Recent UNISON surveys confirm increased stress and workloads within schools.

Over a quarter of staff work more than 6 unpaid hours a week.

70% do work previously done by higher grade staff and half are not trained to do it.

20% had time off with work stress related issues in the last 5 years.

90% of pastoral care staff regularly go home
worrying about pupil welfare/safety.

76% of staff have been the subject of
restructuring and 38% said they had been through more than one restructure in the last 5 years.

We can’t go on like this.

Your school is too important to be put at risk by failing government policies, increasing workloads and cuts to funding and staffing which hurt support staff, teachers and of course children!

UNISON’s online consultation opens 22 January 2019 and runs until 5 March 2019.

It’s just three simple questions and your answers will help us in our campaign and in negotiations with employers and the government.
