Sleep-in judgement

The Supreme Court will announce on Friday morning whether care workers who ‘sleep in’ as part of their duties are entitled to the national minimum wage for time that is not spent performing specific activity.

It is a judgement that support workers have been anticipating for months and months – and could have serious implications for how much care workers are paid for ‘sleep ins’. Whether the outcome of the judgement is positive or negative, we need to be ready and organised to stand up for the pay and conditions that care workers deserve.

Support workers are invited to join a Zoom Watch Party to follow the announcement alongside fellow UNISON members and support workers across the North West. Please circulate this invite to your care worker members, particularly those working in supported living.

Sleep-in Judgement Watch Party! We invite you to join us from 9:30am on Friday 19 March for a short discussion before the ruling.

Register for the watch party.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Members within social care are also encouraged to join our Stand Up for Social Care Facebook Group where they can also follow the judgement and get involved with the campaign:
