Election Support

St Helens Council are looking for people who will be able to support them on a sessional, one-off basis to work in delivering the elections on Thursday 2 May 2024 for the Police and Crime Commissioner and Combined Authority Mayoral Elections.

The following roles are available:

Poll Clerk – You will be required to work at any polling station within the Borough on Thursday 2 May from 6:15 am to 10:15pm and will be responsible for checking electors photographic ID, their eligibility to vote and issuing ballot papers throughout the day. Each polling station is supervised by a Presiding Officer who will be responsible for the management of the polling station.

You will receive a handbook and online training in advance of the poll covering all aspects of the role.

The fee paid for a Poll Clerk is £246.00 (training fee included).

Counting Assistant – You will assist with counting of the votes on Thursday 2 May from 9:30pm until the counting of the votes is complete. This could be the early hours of the morning but will be approximately no later than 2am.  The count will be held at Sutton Leisure Centre, Elton Head Road, St Helens WA9 5AU.

The fee for a Counting Assistant is £108.00.

No experience is required as full training will be given. 

You may have also have seen in the news recently, that a Parliamentary Election must take place before 28 January 2025.  Whilst we don’t know the date of the election until it is called by Prime Minister.
